Animals in the desert habitat. There are also semideserts which are desert like but get more rain up to 16 inches per year. Animals survive in deserts by living underground or resting in burrows during the heat of the day. These animals can be found in drier more desert locations across the frontier.
Mammals such as the fennec fox meerkat dromedary and Bactrian camel. These animals have to overcome various challenges including excessive heat and lack of water to thrive in the desert. Kangaroo rats in the Sonoran Desert get water from the seeds.
It has to stop and sit in the shade of plants during the day so they dont overheat from the sun. Deserts especially true deserts are not easy places for animals to live. Various animals break in the shade throughout the daylight and guise for food at night when it becomes cooler atmosphere outside.

Some creatures get the moisture they need from their food so they dont need to drink much water if any.
Many birds also live in deserts like the bald eagle roadrunner and great horned owl. Some desert plants sprout and bloom only when it rains. Most of the mammals who live in the desert are very small but large mamals like camels gazelles and donkeys have adapted to deal with the very dry conditions and can survive for long periods of time without water.
